Hemorrhoids
- Hot baths 3 or more/day. This will soothe the area and diminish associated muscle spasm
- Irrigate anal area in shower after BM's
- High fiber diet
- Konsyl 1 tsp daily or Metamucil 1 tablespoon twice/day
- Milk of Magnesia 2 tablespoons daily until 1st BM then may use on as needed basis to ensure stools are soft
- Avoid diarrhea or constipation
- Take pain meds as prescribed
- You may take Ibuprofen 800 mg. three times/day or Ultram as prescribed in addition to other pain medication if needed
- Apply topical antibiotic cream twice/day and topical anesthetic as needed
- Expect minor bleeding and discharge until sutures dissolve in 3 weeks
- Swelling and mild skin tag formation around the wound sites is not uncommon. These will diminish once complete healing takes place. These are frequently misconstrued as recurrent hemorrhoids.
- No excercise for 6 weeks. However swimming is acceptable anytime.
- Usually back to work depending on the type of activity in 2 weeks.
