Anal Fissure Recovery
A Partial Internal Sphincterotomy (PIS) is a very minor out patient procedure which is usually high effective in resolving an anal fissure. Complications are very few. There is nothing that can be done to undo the procedure, however there are things that can cause more pain and prolong the healing if instructions are not followed.
- Limited activity for 1 week
- No vigerous excercise for 4 weeks however, swimming can be done at anytime
- After 3 days you may become more active
- Hot baths 3 or more/day
- Irrigate anal area after BM's in shower
- You may apply topical antibiotics for 2 weeks twice/day
- High fiber diet with the use of Konsyl, Metamucil or Fibercon
- Try to avoid diarrhea or constipation
- If constipated may use Milk of Magnesia or Miralax
- Return to office 3 weeks from surgery
