Procedure Preparations
- Please AVOID any ASPIRIN products and weight reducing medications or supplements (7) days prior to your procedure. If you are on COUMADIN you MUST STOP taking this product (5) days prior to your procedure. Please be aware if a biopsy is taken or a polyp is removed you must refrain from any Aspirin products (3) weeks following your procedure unless instructed otherwise by your physician. A list of commonly use Aspirin products will be included in your instructions. If you DO NOT KNOW if Aspirin or blood thinning agents are in the medication(s) you are taking and to AVOID any HEALTH RISKS consult the physician that prescribed the medication(s) to you or your pharmacist.
- You MUST be on a clear liquid diet the ENTIRE day before your procedure. Examples of clear liquids; water, 7-Up, Sprite, chicken or beef broth, Gatorade, white grape juice, Jello, tea and coffee WITHOUT cream or sugar. Please DO NOT eat or drink anything colored RED or PURPLE. Please drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. This will keep you well hydrated and make the Bowel Prep easier for you.
- Please take (1) 10mg Reglan tablet at 9:00 am (This will help with nausea.)Please begin the Golytely Bowel Prep at 10:00am the day before your procedure. Please drink (8) ounces every 15-30 minutes until gone. If you start to feel nauseous wait 40-60 minutes before you start drinking the remaining portion of the bowel prep.
- You CAN NOT eat or drink anything after midnight.
- You MUST have a driver with you following the procedure.

If you are having bowel surgery 2 antibiotics are given orally the day prior to surgery in conjunction with the laxitive bowel prep.
Neomycin 1 gram at 1:00 pm, 2:00pm, 11:00pm
Flagyl 1 gram at 1:00pm, 2:00pm,11:00pm
